Objective: In this study, the distribution of human leukocyte antigen alleles of patients living in the Eastern Anatolia Region and applying to Atatürk University Medical Faculty Medical Biology Department Tissue Typing Laboratory and waiting for kidney transplantation due to bone marrow and chronic kidney failure are investigated and haplotype frequencies are determined.
Methods: In our study, human leukocyte antigen-A, B, DR tissue typing was done by using peripheral bloods obtained from 1000 patients using PCR-SSP (Polymerase Chain Reaction-Sequence Specific Primer) and PCR-SSO (Polymerase Chain Reaction-Sequence Specific Oligonucleotide) tissue typing analysis methods. Tissue typing laboratory results between 2011 and 2019 were retrospectively scanned, and a table containing human leukocyte antigen alleles and haplotype transitions was created.
Results: By using the data in the table, the crossover frequencies of human leukocyte antigen Class I and HLA Class II molecules in our region were determined. As a result of the analyses, A*24 (19.3%) and A*02 (19.2%) are the most common alleles at the human leukocyte antigen-A locus. B*35 (19%) and B*51 (17.5%) are the most common alleles at the human leukocyte antigen -B locus. DRB1*11 (23%) and DRB1*04 (15.5%) are the most common alleles at the human leukocyte antigen-DRB1 locus. A*02-B*35-DRB1*04 (1.4%), A*24-B*51-DRB1*11 (1.3%), and A*02-B*35-DRB1*11 (%1.2) are detected to be the most common haplotypes.
Conclusion: As a conclusion of our research, it has been identified that there are some heterogeneous ethnic subgroups. Moreover, human leukocyte antigen allele frequencies and haplotype transitions of 1000 patients living in Erzurum province and Eastern Anatolia Region were detected. Thus, the most repetitive allele and haplotype transitions were determined in our region. It has been observed that our research supports other studies conducted in Turkey and contributes to the literature.
